| Developmental Progressions, Meshing Maslov With Olson's Developmental Continuums: page numero uno... |

| The suggestion that all of mankind for all of mankind's history has been locked in at the lower thresholds of early childhood development is a tad bit audacious, radical, revolutionary, controversial, and provocative, if not totally in your face multiplied exponentially; indelicate to say the least! Statements like this are not likely to win friends in high places, low places, or any place in between! Right up my alley! I might have just the slightest insight into the tension that must have existed between captain and crew on the Santa Maria! Let's not waste any more of your good will and get started.
I'm going to combine Maslov's hierarchy of developmental needs and my developmental continuum concoction. Below is Maslov's chart: Level 5. self-actualization Level 4. mental Level 3. s o c i a l Level 2: emotional Level 1: p h y s i c a l Perspective certainly influences perception. Screw up on physical, and you have a significant problem. Mess up on both physical and emotional and visions of Sisyphus come to mind. Next, let's take a look at my continuum thing: Developmental Continuums: neediness........................completeness dependence (controlled)........................independence (free) self-consumed........................selflessness instability........................stability insecure........................secure borderlessness........................definitive concept of Self ...(actualization) external security systems........................internal security systems conditional affection........................Unconditional Love naive innocence........................knowledgeable innocence immature........................mature childhood.......................Adulthood Now, let's take each of Maslov's levels and see how an intuitive free-will mindset, how fear, how visceral uncertainty, impacts each of them. This is going to get hairy really fast! I'll try to be clear. But first, let's review and examine why it can be said that an intuitive free-will mindset produces caustic fear and debilitating uncertainty. • Inherent in the much esteemed free-will mindset is the concept of autonomy. • Autonomy necessitates the concept of unfettered choice; the ability of the individual to meta-cognitively weigh and balance all personally accumulated data and causelessly decide; to detach from the physiological and of an independent volition, choose. • This necessitates the concept of responsibility, • which then subdivides into virtuous and culpable, along with all their tangential cousins; • both and all demanding the individual's arbitrary interpretation. This arbitrary interpretation is judgmental in nature. • Arbitrary, personal judgment invokes the dynamic of comparative relationships; how one and others stack up when compared to a personally held standard. • In and about, within and without, below and above all this responsibility induced reflection there wafts the flavor of uncertainty; an unknowable wonderment; a quandary; a capacity within the individual to be judge, district attorney, defense attorney, jury, executioner, and quite possibly the bailiff; sometimes directed within, and sometimes directed without. In an environment alive with culpability and virtue, perceived autonomy is a two edged sword without a handle. When comparative concepts such as good and evil, heaven and hell, damnation and salvation, criminal and honest citizen, stubborn and willing, lazy and industrious, talented and talentless, superior and inferior, are added to the pot, the stew gets very poisonous very quickly. The desire to assume is irrisistable. When assumption matures nationalism and bigotry are the result. Beginning with much beloved personal autonomy we end up with a mountain of uncertainty, which blossoms into fear before our night even begins. The intuitive virgin stripped is a prostitute with all the STD's that go with the turf. I don't know whether this convinces you, but this is my reasoning. Okay; onward and upward! Well, away from this particular spot! |
